Fermentation Workshop

We are very excited for our upcoming fermentation workshop! We will be doing hands on work to create various ferments while providing an explanation for how fermentation works, and the various fungal and bacterial processes involved. It is our hope that participants can take this knowledge home with them (along with the ferments made during the workshop) and introduce the Jacksonville community to the magical world of fermentation! All details are included on the flyer posted above.

SciHouse Has An Intern!

Hello,

My name is Alex Bartkowiak.

I am an 11th-grade student that has chosen an alternative method of education

I have a passion for science and have been starting my journey into making the world a better place through the application of science and technology.

I contacted the lab about 3 months ago in hope of getting lab space to work on a continuation for the Florida State science fair. My relationship with the lab soon became more complex as I chose to leave high-school in search of a more beneficial education.

I was offered a position at the lab by Gabriel Licina later that summer. Currently, I am SciHouse’s best (and only) intern. My job is to help out around the lab with just about everything. In exchange, I gain a greater understanding of the field of biology and the politics of modern science. By simply having the ability to listen and participate in discussions happening daily around the lab, I have already gained knowledge that would have required thousands of dollars at a university.

SciHouse’s ideals coincide very well with my own, and I can see myself potentially pursuing a nontraditional career path, one day, in the sciences. I hope to provide a new perspective and fresh ideas to the lab as they have already provided me with so many opportunities.

Sincerely,

-That High School Kid
